The trip to Koh Phangan

We started in Bangkok

We made sure that we bought the tickets a day in advance, but that was still cutting it close. The travel agent had to call to make sure that there where tickets available.

It would probably be better to get the tickets a few days in advance, essentially if it it Full Moon Party season. We chose to take the Lomprayah bus and speed boat. It is the most expensive choice, but also the most comfortable.

Since it was high season, in other words, the days before the Full Moon Party, we had to pay extra. About 1550 Baht per person. It could have been a lot cheaper if we had taken the government train and the normal ferry. But that would also have taken a lot longer. Thipsx_20151215_142709-800x600.jpgnk around 22 hours with transfers and such, instead of the 11 hour bus trip we had.

We took the night bus, which was delayed by 1½ hours, with minimal information from Lompraya, just saying “The Bus will be here soon, maybe 30 min.” I knew it could take some time and perhaps they didn’t know themselves. But, I knew we could get some food and drink and just find a good spot to wait.

The Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan

A full moon party on Koh Phangan can not be described.
Or actually I would say that it is about 30,000 to 50,000 people in the age of twenty to thirty getting drunk like it was the first time they drank alcohol like it was the first time when they were fourteen again. In other words, a whole lot of partying, dancing and drinking!

Adventure time in Thailand

Since our plans of sailing have been put on hold for a while, we decided that a trip to Thailand was in order.
Bangkok by night
I have lived there before for about six months and we will not be taking the generic turist version of a trip to Thailand. Sure, some things have to be done. Hanna has never been to a Full Moon Party, which for me is a bit too crazy, but on the other hand is also a must for any partygoer who visits Thailand.

Our plan is to arrive in Bangkok on sunday, go to Khao San Road, which I know is probably the most turisty thing one can do. But Hanna has not been in South East Asia at all, so it could be good to ease her into the whole thing.

After all, we will only be in Khao San for 3 days before we are off to an apartment a bit north of central bangkok, and she will probably have to learn some basic Thai, since the locals there do not speak any english at all

After a week in the apartment, we are off to Koh Phangang and a full blown Full Moon Party. Now that is a crazy party.. Thirty-thousand people drinking buckets of booze on a rather small beach. I will probably feel like the oldest geezer there, but maybe I will have fun anyway.

After a week of partying it is time to do what I really want. Relax and take it easy. So the next destination is Koh Chang and a resort in the south next to the quaint little fishing village Bang Bao.

But, there will be more to follow, we will keep everybody updated about our travels and adventures, so keep an eye out!
